Events

VOX UCF has held many events, both fun and educational, that promoted safe sex to students. Here are some of the events that we have held in the past:

Annual Let’s Talk About Sex Baby! Benefit Party

This is a benefit to raise awareness to the Orlando area about safe sex and to raise money for VOX UCF. This is one of the more fun and relaxed events that we hold. This event promotes safe sex while displaying how safe sex can be fun. We team up with many adult toy stores to display to attendees how safe sex can be fun sex. We use the funds received towards future efforts, educational materials, and items to pass out to the UCF community. VOX members work very hard for months to plan this extravagant party. The party has been held at various venues in the Orlando area. Attendance is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with goodie bags. Each bag contains things such as an assortment of condoms and lubricant, coupons and free offers, stickers, educational materials, free samples, and even sex toys! The evening opens with a few guests speakers; speakers in the past have included the Presidents of VOX UCF, Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando’s (PPGO) CEO Sue Idtensohn, PPGO’s Director of Education Jenna Cawley, and other local activists. Attendees of the LTASB Party are also entertained by local music acts, such as bands and rap groups.

Everyone’s favorite part of the night is the games. VOX hosts the Vibrator Racing game (vibrators are raced down a track), the Great Condom-Banana Challenge (participants are blind folded and handcuffed and must race to put a condom on a banana properly), the Wheel of Fornication (a quiz game with categories such as contraception and sexually transmitted diseases), and the Fake Orgasm contest (guests fake their best climax). Winners of each game receive great prizes; during some games, all participants receive something! There are also periodic give aways throughout the party to people in the crowd.

Prizes, in the past, have included vibrators, lubricant, condom assortments, romance kits, t-shirts, gift certificates, duffel bags, and much more! Some of our very generous donors have been Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando, Fairvilla Magastores, Early to Bed, Tantus Silicone, Astroglide, Crown condoms, A Woman’s Touch, Good Vibes, Culture Junkie, Bitch magazine, to name a few.

Halloween and Valentine’s Day Goodie Bags

VOX UCF realizes that holidays and long weekends are seen as times to party for students, and often times lead to the spread of STDs and unintentional pregnancies. That is why we get together and make free goodie bags to hand out on campus outside of the Student Union. Each bag contains condoms, educational materials, and more. Students are more than welcome to take extra condoms and are encouraged to speak with a VOX member in order to see how they can better protect themselves. Raffles for other prizes are also occasional held during the bag distribution.

Pro-Choice Pizza Parties

VOX has hosted several pizza parties in order to acquaint members with each other and to welcome potential members to the club. Most of the parties have been held at Lazy Moon, a local pizza place with slices bigger than your head. We have also hosted Lazy Moon Loves Ladies, an event which counteracted a misogynist party being held at another restaurant. Over 100 people came to the Ladies event and learned about feminism, equality, and of course safe sex.

Movie Nights and Picnics

We have hosted several movie nights, which are a relaxing way for members to view and discuss reproductive rights (or lack there of) in a film. We have watched films such as Iron Jawed Angels and Wrestling Manhood, to name a few. We have also hosted picnics on UCF’s free speech lawn. The picnics have been a great way for VOX members to talk to interested students about the pro-choice message and remaining safe and healthy.
